 German automakers are experiencing a massive wave of administrative job cuts amid mounting pressure from Chinese competitors. This trend has resulted in an influx of hundreds of managers into the job market, coinciding with sweeping restructuring programs spearheaded by industry giants such as Volkswagen, Porsche, and BMW.

According to the Financial Times, Volkswagen plans to eliminate hundreds of administrative roles as part of a broader scheme to reduce white-collar jobs. This move comes at a time when German car manufacturers are facing fierce competition from Chinese automakers.

Magnus Tessner, an automotive sector partner at IFP Executive Search, stated that companies like Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen are "letting go of managers at an unprecedented pace." He added that many of these former executives are currently actively seeking new employment, although their departures were cushioned by generous severance packages.

One executive recruiter revealed that Volkswagen had approached him for assistance in finding new placements for 400 to 500 managers. However, he informed the automaker that the current job market simply lacks a sufficient number of vacant executive positions to absorb them all.
