Egypt Launches Local Production of First Electric Vehicle ”MAGE EV” with 45% Local Component at El-Nasr Factory

In a strategic step toward localizing sustainable transportation and deepening domestic manufacturing, Eng. Khaled Hashem, Minister of Industry, and Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, witnessed the production launch of Egypt’s first locally assembled electric vehicle, the "MAGE EV" by Chinese brand Dongfeng Mage. Manufactured at El-Nasr Automotive Manufacturing Company, the vehicle features a 45% local component ratio.

The production of the new model comes under the umbrella of "SN Automotive", the brand’s local agent, in partnership with "Al-Safi Group". This collaboration embodies joint efforts between state institutions, the private sector, and global companies. The event was attended by high-ranking officials, including the Chairman of the Arab Organization for Industrialization, executives from the Metallurgical Industries Holding Company, El-Nasr Automotive, and Misr Insurance.

Minister of Industry: A Quantum Leap for Technology Localization and Supply Chains

Eng. Khaled Hashem emphasized that launching this EV is not merely a market addition, but a continuation of efforts to revive El-Nasr Automotive and leverage its accumulated expertise. He noted that the ministry aims to integrate Egypt's automotive sector into global supply chains, increasing local content to expand exports regionally and internationally.

He also highlighted updates to the National Automotive Industry Development Program (AIDP), which offers investment incentives linked to value addition, alongside expanding local manufacturing of batteries, electric motors, and electronic components.

Minister of Electricity: Reviving El-Nasr and Expanding EV Charging Infrastructure

Dr. Mahmoud Esmat stressed that presidential support was the driving force behind localizing EV technology. He pointed out that upgrade efforts included modernizing assembly, painting, and welding lines at El-Nasr to produce eco-friendly buses with over 60% local content, in addition to dedicated EV assembly lines.

The Minister added that the state is simultaneously expanding the network of EV charging stations across all governorates to facilitate the transition toward clean energy.

Inspection Tour of Production Lines

The event concluded with an inspection tour by the Minister of Industry inside El-Nasr’s manufacturing plants, where he observed the various production stages and technologies used in manufacturing the "MAGE EV," ensuring quality and the integration of local components.
