Record Growth in Electric Vehicles: China”s Qingdao Exports to Egypt Surge by 30.7% in 8 Months
Trade exchanges between the coastal city of Qingdao in eastern China and Egypt recorded a remarkable increase, with Chinese exports to Egyptian markets reaching approximately 3.33 billion yuan (around 6.69 yuan per USD) during the first eight months of this year, representing a year-on-year increase of 30.7%. Electric vehicles led this growth, with exports surging by an impressive 177.7%.
Belt and Road Initiative Boosts Economic Cooperation
China's Xinhua News Agency reported that the Belt and Road Initiative directly contributed to enhancing economic cooperation between China and Africa, deepening trade partnerships and offering new momentum to leverage mutual industrial integration advantages. Egypt stands out as a pivotal hub in North Africa within this partnership, supported by the vast potential and promising opportunities in its new energy vehicle market.
Egypt as a Growing Regional Automotive Hub
For his part, Dai Xiaojing, manager of Rox (Qingdao) International Trading, explained that infrastructure upgrades and rising consumer demand for high-quality transport solutions in Egypt helped boost sales of high-performance commercial and passenger vehicles. He added that companies are adjusting technical specifications to suit the local climate, such as strengthening thermal management and air conditioning performance for high temperatures, noting that his company’s EV exports to Egypt reached 134 million yuan during the first eight months of the year—a 200% year-on-year increase.
Broad Boom in China's Automotive Industry and Exports
On an industry-wide level, data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers showed that approximately 7.15 million complete vehicles were exported during the same period, up 66.7% year-on-year. Among them, nearly 3.4 million were new energy vehicles, marking a 124.3% increase. Furthermore, China's total vehicle production and sales both surpassed 20 million units, with new energy vehicle manufacturers producing and selling over 10.6 million units each—both growing by over 10% year-on-year—bringing the market share of new energy vehicles to 52.4% of total new car sales.
