OpenAI Launches macOS Version of Codex to Enhance AI-Powered Programming Capabilities
OpenAI has announced the release of a new macOS version of its AI-powered programming tool, Codex, aiming to strengthen its presence in the AI development tools market and attract new users from both enterprise and developer segments.
The updated application allows users to manage and operate multiple AI agents simultaneously, distributing tasks in parallel and enabling collaboration among agents for long-term projects.
OpenAI’s goal with this release is to make advanced Codex capabilities more accessible, streamlining AI-assisted programming for developers and end users alike. Currently, Codex is available through the free version of ChatGPT, as well as the Go subscription, with usage limits doubled for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu plans, expanding its user base and maximizing adoption of smart coding capabilities.
As one of OpenAI’s core tools in recent years, Codex plays a key role in the company’s strategy to compete in a growing market, particularly against emerging competitors such as Anthropic, whose Claude Code tool generated $1 billion in revenue within six months of launch.
While coding tools like Codex are not yet replacements for human developers, they significantly accelerate programming tasks, reduce development time, and provide a valuable productivity boost for startups and tech enterprises.
The release of the desktop version reflects the increasing reliance on AI agents to manage complex, long-term software projects, underscoring the growth of AI-powered development solutions in the technology sector. OpenAI aims to deliver a more integrated and practical user experience, ensuring seamless integration into various work environments and reinforcing its competitive position in AI programming.
