Textile Industries Chamber Appoints Former Tax Authority Head Fayez El-Dabaani as Advisor
The Chamber of Textile Industries at the Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI) has appointed chartered accountant Fayez El-Dabaani, former head of the Egyptian Tax Authority, as the Chamber's advisor for tax, insurance, and customs affairs. This decision aligns with the Chamber's strategy to enhance the services provided to member companies and offer technical and advisory support to navigate the sector's challenges.
The appointment aims to launch a new mechanism for analyzing tax, insurance, and customs issues facing Chamber members. It seeks to develop practical solutions in coordination with relevant authorities, thereby facilitating procedures, improving the business environment, and boosting the competitiveness of spinning, weaving, and ready-made garment companies while supporting their capacity to expand production and increase exports.
The announcement was made during the Chamber’s board of directors meeting, chaired by Mohamed El-Kateb. The meeting was attended by the Chamber's Deputy Chairmen Sayed El-Barhamtoushy and MP Ahmed Shaarawy; Eng. Abdel Ghani El-Abasiri, the Chamber's representative on the FEI board; and board members Mahmoud El-Morshedy, Eng. Sherif Wagdy, Issa Mostafa, Eng. Ahmed Badr, Mahmoud El-Fouty, Mostafa El-Sheikh, Islam Abou El-Enein, and Eng. Ahmed Arafa (via Zoom), alongside Khaled El-Beheiry, the Chamber’s Executive Director.
Mohamed El-Kateb, Chairman of the Chamber of Textile Industries, stated that the Chamber is currently adopting a comprehensive plan to upgrade its member services. He noted that tax, insurance, and customs files are at the forefront of this plan, as they are among the most pressing concerns for the business community. He emphasized that the goal is to provide a technical and advisory umbrella to help companies overcome operational hurdles.
El-Kateb added that enlisting Dr. Fayez Fathallah El-Dabaani leverages his extensive expertise in the tax system. This will support member companies by providing specialized technical counsel and proposing practical visions to facilitate the business climate and enhance the sector's competitiveness.
For his part, Eng. Abdel Ghani El-Abasiri, the Chamber's representative on the FEI board, highlighted that providing technical and advisory support to factories regarding tax, insurance, and customs files is a crucial requirement for improving the investment climate. This is particularly vital amidst recent legislative changes, which necessitate direct communication channels with companies to clarify procedures and address their inquiries.
El-Abasiri added that the Chamber aims to solidify its role as a supportive partner to factories—not only by advocating for members' demands but also by raising awareness of new laws and decisions. This proactive approach helps companies comply with legal requirements and avoid disruptions to their operations. He affirmed that this step is part of an integrated plan to develop the Chamber's services and support members' expansion and export capabilities.
Fayez El-Dabaani, the newly appointed Tax Advisor for the Chamber, stated that the upcoming phase will see intensified advisory services and regular meetings with members. The objective is to raise awareness of tax, insurance, and customs legislation, assisting companies in properly applying laws and capitalizing on state-provided facilitations.
He further noted that the Chamber will actively monitor the primary challenges facing member companies to provide technical and advisory opinions. Additionally, specialized seminars will be organized to introduce the latest legislative and procedural amendments, which will ultimately enhance tax compliance, streamline the business environment, and foster the growth of the textile industry.
