Egyptian Tax Authority Clarifies E-Commerce Tax Obligations

The Egyptian Tax Authority (ETA) has confirmed that e-commerce is considered a taxable economic activity, covering the sale of goods or provision of services via the internet. This includes transactions conducted through platforms, websites, applications, social media, or any other electronic means.

The authority emphasized that e-commerce operators must register for income tax within 30 days of commencing operations, in accordance with Article 25 of the Unified Tax Procedures Law No. 206 of 2020 and its amendments.

ETA highlighted that this tax registration requirement is part of new facilitation measures aimed at integrating the informal economy and simplifying procedures for taxpayers, promoting tax fairness and transparency.

For inquiries or further information, the public can visit the E-Commerce Unit, send an email to [email protected], or contact the hotline at 16395.
