Spotify Introduces Artist Verification System to Distinguish Human Creators from AI-Generated Content
Spotify has announced the launch of a new verification system aimed at distinguishing real artists from AI-generated content, in a move that reflects growing debate over the future of the digital music industry.
Under the update, a green checkmark badge labeled “Verified by Spotify” will appear next to an artist’s name once they meet a set of criteria confirming the presence of a real human creator behind the account.
The verification process includes linking artist profiles to social media platforms, demonstrating consistent audience engagement, and providing additional indicators such as live performances or official merchandise.
Spotify stated that the initiative will cover the vast majority of artists on the platform, with particular priority given to those who have made significant contributions to music history and culture.
The move is also seen as an effort to curb the spread of so-called “content farms,” which rely on high-volume production of AI-generated music. As such content continues to proliferate, the platform is seeking to reinforce authenticity and protect the value of human creativity in an increasingly automated landscape.
