Elon Musk Unveils “Macrohard” AI Project Combining Tesla and xAI to Simulate Software Companies
Elon Musk has revealed a new artificial intelligence initiative combining Tesla and xAI technologies under the name “Macrohard,” also referred to as “Digital Optimus.” The project aims to create an advanced AI system capable of simulating the operations of entire software companies.
The system is based on integrating Grok, the large language model developed by xAI, which acts as a high-level orchestrator, with an AI agent developed by Tesla. The agent can analyze a computer screen in real time through video input and interact with the keyboard and mouse to automatically perform digital tasks.
Musk suggested that the system could theoretically replicate the work of full software companies, making a humorous reference to Microsoft, whose name inspired the project’s title.
According to Musk, the platform will run on Tesla’s AI4 artificial intelligence chip, alongside servers powered by Nvidia processors, enabling competitive performance at relatively low cost.
The announcement follows an investment move by Tesla in January, when the company purchased approximately $2 billion worth of shares in xAI as part of a broader effort to strengthen collaboration between the two firms in the development of advanced AI technologies.
The project also comes at a time when the software industry is undergoing rapid transformation due to the rise of AI systems capable of independently performing computer-based tasks. This shift has raised concerns among some investors about the potential impact of such technologies on the traditional business models of software companies.
