Amazon CEO Andy Jassy has reaffirmed that Amazon Web Services (AWS) remains the world’s leading cloud computing platform, despite growing competition from Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud, stressing that market comparisons must account for the significant differences in revenue scale among providers.

Jassy’s comments followed the release of Amazon’s latest financial results, which showed AWS revenues growing 24% year-on-year, marking the unit’s fastest growth rate in 13 consecutive quarters, with an annualized revenue run rate of $142 billion.

He emphasized that achieving double-digit growth on such a large revenue base is fundamentally different from posting higher growth percentages at a smaller scale. While Google Cloud reported revenue growth of 36%, and Azure posted growth of around 39% in their most recent reports, AWS continues to add more revenue in absolute terms.

Over the past year, AWS increased its annual revenues by more than $21 billion, compared with approximately $15.5 billion for Google Cloud and around $19 billion for Microsoft Azure during its latest fiscal year.

Financial data also highlighted AWS’s strong profitability advantage, with operating income reaching approximately $45.6 billion, significantly exceeding Google Cloud’s operating income of about $13.9 billion over the same period.
