G42 Leads $1 Billion Investment to Build AI Data Centers in Vietnam

UAE-based technology giant G42 has announced that it will lead a $1 billion investment consortium to build advanced data centers and cloud computing services in Vietnam, marking a major step in the company’s strategy to expand beyond the Gulf region in the field of artificial intelligence (AI).

The project involves partnerships with FPT and Viet Tai to establish three state-of-the-art data centers, although details on the timeline and expected computing capacity have not been disclosed. The initiative comes amid a regional race to expand AI digital infrastructure in Southeast Asia, where challenges related to energy and resources remain critical.

Through this expansion, G42 aims to strengthen its global operational capabilities, leveraging support from sovereign wealth funds and strategic partnerships with leading technology companies such as Microsoft. G42 is also the primary developer of the “Stargate” infrastructure project for OpenAI in the UAE, and plans to build a 5-gigawatt data center in the country.

In addition, G42 has introduced innovative initiatives such as “Digital Embassies,” enabling countries to maintain legal control over data and AI models while operating on foreign soil. The company emphasized that its global expansion strategy intentionally avoids Chinese assets, reflecting a commitment to data sovereignty and secure AI operations.
