AI Reshapes the Future of Digital Financing at Cairo ICT 2026’s PAFIX Session

During the "PAFIX" conference—held alongside the 30th edition of "Cairo ICT 2026"—a panel discussion titled "From Digital Banking to Digital Finance: AI-Powered Transformation" took place. Moderated by Osama Kamal, Chairman of Trade Fairs International, the session addressed the pivotal role of artificial intelligence in reshaping Egypt's banking sector, emerging opportunities to enhance customer experience and decision-making, and the key challenges surrounding data quality and cybersecurity.

Infrastructure and Data Accuracy: Prerequisites for Tech Success

Osama Kamal emphasized that digitizing processes is merely the first step in digital transformation. He stressed that clean, organized data is the cornerstone of building effective AI algorithms. Furthermore, he noted that banks' frequent requests for customer data updates are essential for maintaining database integrity, despite causing minor inconvenience to some clients.

Central Bank of Egypt: Smart Tech as a Pillar for Monetary Policy Stability

Rami Abouelnaga, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), highlighted that AI and data science offer a strategic opportunity to improve economic indicator analysis and speed up responses to inflation. He pointed out that Banking Law No. 194 of 2020 established a flexible legislative environment for fintech. Abouelnaga outlined four key pillars to maximize AI benefits: updating regulatory frameworks, improving data quality, ensuring policy clarity, and investing in human capital.

Smart Banking Services with 90% Automated Query Response

Moataz Motawee, CEO and Managing Director of OneBank, stated that AI has revolutionized financial behavior analysis and fraud detection. He explained that AI voice assistants can now handle 80% to 90% of routine customer inquiries, significantly improving service efficiency and response speeds.

Credit Assessment Moves Beyond Default Tracking to Behavioral Analysis

Mohamed Kraiem, CEO and Managing Director of iScore, revealed that modern credit rating models have evolved beyond tracking missed payments. Today, powered by machine learning, they analyze customers' overall financial behavior and real-life commitments, enabling both bank and non-bank financial institutions to expand access to credit safely.

Open Standards and Digital Security for Governments

Stefano Camilleri, Head of Business Development and Marketing at IDENTIS Group, underscored the importance of adopting open international technology standards (such as ISO and W3C) for digital identity solutions to avoid the high costs of proprietary, closed systems. He added that the deployment of AI agents requires robust security guarantees to protect organizations and user data.

International Support to Boost Digital Financial Literacy and Combat Fraud

Riad Nawar, Head of Financial Institutions Group at IFC African Advisory Services, announced plans to launch a major program in Egypt to enhance digital financial literacy. He emphasized that combating financial fraud requires transparency, responsible financing standards, and guaranteeing customers the right to access a free annual credit report.
