Egyptian Prime Minister Leads Initiative to Protect Children from Harmful Online Content

Egyptian Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly held a meeting to discuss measures for protecting children and youth from harmful content on social media platforms, in implementation of presidential directives. The session also reviewed steps for establishing a regulatory framework that requires digital platforms to enhance online safety and adopt proactive measures to safeguard minors.

Dr. Madbouly emphasized that the meeting comes as part of ongoing efforts to address the consequences of social media and online gaming platforms not adhering to child safety standards. He noted that many developed countries are actively regulating social media and gaming platforms to protect youth and secure society.

The Prime Minister highlighted President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s recent directive to begin studying legislation aimed at protecting children and youth and curbing harmful content on digital platforms.

Additionally, Dr. Madbouly noted the steps already taken by the Egyptian House of Representatives toward drafting a comprehensive law that sets stricter controls on children’s use of social media and gaming apps. He added:
"We will work to formulate legislation and regulatory decisions in cooperation with the House of Representatives to ensure the intended objectives are met—protecting minors and future generations."
