Amazon Generates EGP 29 Billion in Economic Contribution and Supports 60,000 Jobs in Egypt
Amazon’s investments have made a contribution of more than EGP 29 billion to Egypt’s economy over the last decade, while supporting over 60,000 jobs across multiple sectors, according to a new analysis by economic consultancy Keystone Strategy.
The findings were presented during the Global Entrepreneurship Festival 2026 in Cairo, held under the auspices of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly. The reported economic contribution reflects the company’s cumulative spending on infrastructure, technology, logistics and employee compensation.
Omar Elsahy, General Manager of Amazon Egypt, said the company’s presence in the country is built around a long-term commitment to investment and growth. He pointed to the role of Egyptian entrepreneurs, local businesses and the country’s workforce in shaping the company’s wider economic impact.
From Souq.com Acquisition to Amazon.eg
Amazon’s expansion in Egypt gained momentum following its acquisition of Souq.com in 2017 and the launch of Amazon.eg in 2021. Since then, the company has continued investing in the infrastructure and services supporting its operations and the wider business ecosystem.
According to Keystone Strategy, these investments have contributed more than EGP 29 billion to Egypt’s GDP. Their impact also reaches local suppliers and service providers, while supporting demand and economic activity in sectors connected to the company’s operations.
Supporting Employment and Egyptian Businesses
More than 60,000 direct, indirect, induced and seasonal jobs have been supported through Amazon’s activities over the past decade. The employment impact covers logistics, operations, technology and professional services, including the company’s fulfillment and delivery network and regional customer service center.
Amazon’s network also provides opportunities for thousands of small and medium-sized Egyptian businesses. Sellers on the platform can reach customers across Egypt and international markets, helping them expand their businesses and create jobs of their own.
Amazon Now and the Next Phase of Growth
The company is also developing its customer services, including Amazon Now, which offers rapid delivery of groceries, fresh produce sourced from local farmers and daily household essentials through micro-fulfillment centers across Egypt.
Looking ahead, Amazon said it will continue investing in local talent, technology and infrastructure, while supporting entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises as part of its long-term commitment to Egypt’s economic development.
