Giza Chamber of Commerce and Chinese Delegation Explore Healthcare and Smart City Investments in 6th of October City

The Giza Chamber of Commerce, chaired by Eng. Osama El-Shahed, hosted a high-level Chinese economic delegation led by Jan Jing Zhong, Secretary of the CPC Changping District Committee in Beijing. The meetings, coordinated by the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce, focused on deepening bilateral economic ties, facilitating technology transfers, and attracting Chinese direct investment—particularly to the industrial hub of 6th of October City.

The Chinese delegation praised Egypt’s modernized infrastructure, emphasizing Beijing's interest in utilizing the Egyptian market as a strategic launchpad for expanding into broader African and regional markets.

6th of October City as a Prime Industrial Hub

During the talks, Eng. El-Shahed highlighted 6th of October City as one of Egypt's most robust industrial fortresses, primed to absorb new Chinese manufacturing lines.

The city features six major industrial zones, alongside specialized free, technological, and investment zones. Its modern infrastructure currently supports leading domestic and multinational corporations across vital sectors, including automotive manufacturing, food processing, home appliances, chemicals, and textiles. The Chamber pledged to facilitate licensing procedures and maximize available investment incentives for incoming Chinese enterprises.

Four Strategic Pillars of Cooperation

The bilateral discussions centered on four primary avenues for investment and collaboration:

Healthcare & Biotechnology: Exploring joint ventures in AI-driven healthcare services, cell and gene therapy, synthetic biology, and surgical robotics to develop specialized medical and pharmaceutical industrial zones within 6th of October City.

Smart Cities & Urban Planning: Leveraging the Changping District's advanced expertise in smart city management and integrated infrastructure to support ongoing urban development efforts across Giza.

Corporate Expansion: Facilitating direct dialogues between the public and private sectors to streamline logistics and encourage Chinese firms to establish regional headquarters and dedicated production facilities in Egypt.

Institutional Framework: Committing to a sustainable partnership model driven by continuous mutual visits, expert exchanges, and joint business forums.

Surging Bilateral Trade Dynamics

The push for localized investment coincides with an unprecedented boom in bilateral trade under the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations.

According to the latest data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), Egyptian exports to China surged by 199.8% in the first half of 2026, reaching $840.8 million compared to $280.5 million during the same period in 2025. China remains one of the top BRICS investors in Egypt, with the Egyptian government targeting a total bilateral merchandise trade volume of $23 billion by the end of 2026.
