In a move reflecting the rapid shift toward an automation- and AI-driven economy, Stripe has announced a major upgrade to its digital wallet “Link,” positioning it as one of the first financial tools designed specifically for the era of AI agents capable of executing transactions autonomously on behalf of users.

The update goes beyond enhancing traditional payment experiences, opening the door for intelligent agents to carry out end-to-end financial tasks. These include booking tickets, making reservations, shopping online, and managing subscriptions—without requiring direct user intervention at every step.

At the core of the concept is enabling users to securely connect their AI agents to the wallet, granting them predefined permissions to initiate payments. Crucially, the system is designed to protect sensitive payment data, ensuring that such information is not directly exposed to the AI systems themselves.

This approach addresses one of the most pressing concerns surrounding the integration of artificial intelligence into financial transactions: maintaining data privacy and security while enabling greater automation and convenience.
