OTONOM Leverages Local IoT Manufacturing to Drive Egyptian Smart Tech Expansion

Egyptian technology firm OTONOM has revealed ambitious plans to expand its footprint nationally and across the region, supported by a comprehensive R&D and full local manufacturing model designed to enhance competitiveness in smart devices and AI applications.

Engineer Mahmoud Mohamed, Co-Founder of OTONOM, told Fintech Gate that the company operates as a complete IoT laboratory, delivering an end-to-end development cycle from initial research, software and hardware design, to prototyping. This enables rapid conversion of innovative ideas into market-ready products.

Notable initiatives include a biometric smart wristband for diving, designed for a UAE client, which monitors vital health metrics in real time and uses AI to predict potential risks. The device includes GPS and emergency features to ensure user safety.

In the home automation segment, OTONOM offers solutions that retrofit traditional homes into smart environments, operable online or offline via LAN, with AI systems analyzing usage patterns to automate daily routines.

The company prioritizes security, combining biometric access control with AWS cloud hosting, and performing routine penetration tests to maintain system integrity.

OTONOM’s local manufacturing capability allows for cost-effective products relative to imports, shielding it from global supply chain disruptions. Established in 2020, the company targets 20 significant B2B projects in 2026 and is considering a six-figure investment round to enhance AI capabilities, expand production, and scale marketing efforts.

With the IoT market growing across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors, OTONOM aims to consolidate its position as a regional technology player, promoting Egyptian innovation and competitiveness.
