Maqam Holding and Lulu Group Plan Major Retail Development in Abu Dhabi’s Al Shahama

Lulu Group has announced plans to develop a new 210,000-square-foot hypermarket in Abu Dhabi’s Al Shahama area, creating a large-scale retail destination for residents of the growing community and surrounding areas.

Partnership Sets New Retail Project in Motion

The project follows an agreement signed in Abu Dhabi by Sheikh Surour bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, owner of Maqam International Holding, and Yusuffali M.A., Chairman of Lulu Group.

Sonad Real Estate Management, a subsidiary of Maqam International Holding, will oversee the development of the project. The hypermarket is scheduled to open by the UAE’s Union Day in 2027.

Serving Al Shahama and Surrounding Communities

The new destination is expected to serve residents of Al Shahama, Al Bahia, Yas Island and nearby communities.

Its location provides direct connectivity to major roads, while extensive parking facilities are planned to accommodate families living in nearby villa communities as well as motorists travelling through the area.

A Broad Retail Offering

The hypermarket will combine a contemporary design with Lulu’s broad product portfolio, covering fresh food, international grocery products, household essentials, electronics, fashion and lifestyle products.

The concept is designed to bring a comprehensive shopping experience together in a modern environment focused on variety, quality and value.

Lulu Strengthens Its Abu Dhabi Presence

Yusuffali said Abu Dhabi has remained an important part of Lulu Group’s growth journey, highlighting the company’s continued commitment to investing in the emirate and serving its expanding communities.

He added that the partnership with Sheikh Surour aims to create a world-class shopping destination that brings Lulu’s product offering closer to families in Al Shahama and neighboring areas.
