Egypt Targets Stronger Local Electronics Base as Industry Strategy Advances

Egypt is strengthening its drive to build a more capable domestic electronics industry, with the government focusing on technology localization, modern manufacturing and the development of products that can compete in international markets.

Industry Minister Khaled Hashem highlighted the strategy during a tour of Arab International Optronics Company, reviewing its production lines, laboratories and technological solutions used across several industrial and infrastructure applications.

Industrial Strategy Places Electronics Among Key Sectors

According to Hashem, electronics, technology solutions and solar energy systems have been identified as priority industries under Egypt’s Industrial Strategy 2030.

Expanding local production in these areas is intended to serve domestic demand while strengthening the country’s export potential and participation in global supply chains.

Production Lines Cover Multiple Technology Applications

The minister reviewed locally manufactured solutions spanning smart security and surveillance, smart lighting, energy-efficient lighting, solar panels and systems, smart meters, electronics and specialised medical equipment.

The visit also included the company’s EGAC-accredited laboratories, where specialised technical testing and calibration activities are carried out and reports are issued according to approved standards.

Skills Development Becomes Part of Localization Efforts

Alongside manufacturing capabilities, the company presented its efforts to build technical expertise and train specialised workers for the electronics sector.

Hashem said Egypt is continuing to adopt modern technologies while working to localise their production, reflecting the government’s broader objective of expanding the country’s footprint in advanced technology industries.

Arab International Optronics was established in 1982 as an Egyptian joint-stock company and specialises in advanced optical equipment and technology systems.
