Egyptian Exchange Chairman Omar Radwan highlighted the latest developments in Egypt’s capital market during a panel discussion at the annual Middle East Investor Relations Association (MEIRA) conference in Dubai.

Radwan pointed to the Egyptian Exchange’s record performance, noting that its main indices have reached unprecedented levels amid strong growth in trading volumes and values. He also discussed the market’s improving performance following greater macroeconomic stability and the gradual return of institutional investors and international funds.

The Egyptian Exchange is also working to broaden its range of investment products and modernize its trading infrastructure to meet changing investor requirements. Current efforts include expanding short-selling mechanisms, introducing futures and options trading in the derivatives market, and strengthening the role of market makers to narrow bid-ask spreads and improve market liquidity.

Focus on Attracting Foreign Capital

Radwan said the exchange is continuing efforts to attract additional foreign investment, pointing to the Egyptian economy’s ability to absorb global shocks and market volatility.

According to his remarks, a growing number of international funds and foreign investors are examining opportunities in the Egyptian market and considering new capital allocations. He also highlighted Egypt’s continued classification as an emerging market within S&P Dow Jones indices, alongside improvements in other international market indicators.

The exchange chairman also linked the development of new financial instruments with recent tax measures aimed at supporting investment. These measures include simplifying stamp tax procedures, reducing tax burdens on non-residents, and providing incentives and exemptions for newly listed companies to lower financing costs and encourage liquidity.

Supporting SMEs and New Listings

Radwan also discussed cooperation with the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency and initiatives supporting startups.

The exchange is working to prepare promising businesses for the capital market and facilitate the transition of fast-growing companies from the SME platform to the main market. The strategy is intended to broaden the investor base and give more businesses access to formal financing channels.

Market Capitalization Exceeds EGP 4.3 Trillion

Radwan said the structural developments have been reflected in the exchange’s trading indicators, with market capitalization exceeding EGP 4.3 trillion and average daily trading values reaching around EGP 10 billion.

He noted that the market’s current capacity could support large-scale offerings while limiting their potential impact on share prices.

The exchange is also preparing to receive expected listings under Egypt’s government IPO program, including Banque du Caire and Misr Life Insurance, alongside potential private-sector offerings in export-oriented and service industries such as healthcare, financial services and logistics.
