Egypt’s University of Informatics Strengthens Academic Collaboration with Czech Republic

Professor Dr. Ahmed Hamad, Acting President of Egypt University of Informatics, received H.E. Ivan Úlehl, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Egypt, along with a Czech delegation, at the university’s headquarters in the Knowledge City of the New Administrative Capital. The meeting reflects the university’s strategic approach to enhancing academic and research collaboration with leading international institutions.

The Czech delegation included Professor Dr. Pavel Zimčík, Vice Dean for Research, Development, and External Relations at the Brno University of Technology, while Egypt University of Informatics was represented by the deans of its four faculties, the CEO of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center, and several faculty members.

Professor Hamad emphasized the university’s clear strategy to open partnerships with top academic institutions globally, enhancing the competitiveness of Egyptian higher education regionally and internationally, particularly in communications, information technology, artificial intelligence, and digital engineering.

The sides agreed in principle to explore a memorandum of understanding covering several cooperation pathways, including: dual degree programs, student and faculty exchanges, shared courses, joint research projects, and access to master’s and PhD scholarships offered by Brno University of Technology. A follow-up visit by Brno University officials to Egypt University of Informatics will be arranged to discuss implementation mechanisms.

Professor Hamad noted that Egypt-Czech academic relations date back to the 1960s, with many Egyptian scholars graduating from Czech universities. The current phase represents an opportunity to revive collaboration in line with the Fourth Industrial Revolution and Egypt’s digital transformation strategy.

The university also highlighted its international agreements with leading universities in the United States, Canada, France, and elsewhere, especially in AI, gaming, and advanced engineering.

Funded Research Project
The university recently secured a Horizon Europe-funded research project (GAINAfrica), marking its first participation as a beneficiary in European research and innovation projects. This underscores the institution’s growing international research presence. The university also maintains strong collaborations with global tech companies, integrating academic learning with industrial applications to equip students with practical experience.

Ambassador Ivan Úlehl praised Egypt University of Informatics for achieving tangible accomplishments in a short period, from infrastructure development to international partnerships and specialized academic programs, affirming Czech interest in strengthening bilateral cooperation in higher education and research.

Professor Dr. Pavel Zimčík highlighted Brno University’s IT faculty interest in expanding collaborations with North African and Middle Eastern universities, identifying Egyptian universities as strategic partners, particularly in computer vision, intelligent systems, and industry-linked research.

Brno University of Technology
Founded in 1899, Brno University of Technology houses the IT Faculty (established 2002) with approximately 2,500 students across four departments: Computer Systems, Information Systems, Animation & Multimedia, and Intelligent Systems. The faculty follows a European model for international partnerships, including a 3+2 master’s program, and about 50% of its research budget comes from industry collaboration, demonstrating strong ties to practical applications.

Dr. Amal El-Gamal, Head of International Relations at Egypt University of Informatics, emphasized that the university is expanding its global partnerships to keep pace with rapid developments in ICT worldwide, combining theoretical learning with practical experience. The university focuses on AI, data engineering, digital transformation, robotics, fintech, game design, and UX, aligning with Egypt’s vision for a knowledge-based economy driven by innovation.
