Mastercard and Samsung Launch ”Samsung Pay” in Morocco to Boost Digital Payments
In a significant step toward empowering Morocco's electronic payment ecosystem, global technology company Mastercard has announced support for the launch of "Samsung Pay" in collaboration with Samsung Electronics. This partnership enables eligible Mastercard cardholders to complete daily transactions smoothly and securely using compatible smartphones and smartwatches, eliminating the need for traditional plastic cards.
Expanding Smart Payment Options in the Moroccan Market
The collaboration between the two global giants aims to accelerate digital transformation across the Kingdom by offering an innovative, additional payment method tailored to the needs of both consumers and merchants. This initiative facilitates commercial transactions across participating points of sale.
Digital Tokenization Technology (MDES) to Ensure Top Safety Standards
The new service relies on the Mastercard Digital Enablement Service (MDES), which replaces sensitive bank card data with a unique digital token during transactions. Combined with advanced authentication mechanisms built into compatible devices, it delivers robust protection for users and minimizes cyber risks.
Global Strategy for a Full Transition to Digital Tokenization by 2030
The launch in Morocco aligns with Mastercard's ambitious global goal to transition 100% of online transactions to digital tokenization by 2030. Mohamed Benomar, Country Manager for North West Africa at Mastercard, highlighted that the partnership aims to provide consumers with safer, more versatile payment options. Similarly, Hong Seok Lee, President of Samsung Electronics Maghreb, noted that the service offers Galaxy users a seamless payment experience while contributing to Morocco’s digital evolution.
Joint Awareness Campaign to Drive Digital Payment Adoption
Both companies plan to launch a joint awareness campaign across the Kingdom to introduce "Samsung Pay" features, guide users on conducting transactions, and encourage consumers, merchants, and financial institutions to adopt secure digital payment solutions.
