Oracle and Egypt”s Investment Authority Explore Technology Localisation and Digital Skills Development
Egypt's General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) is exploring cooperation with Oracle Egypt to expand the local deployment of cloud computing, artificial intelligence and database technologies, while supporting digital skills development through a training initiative targeting 150,000 Egyptians.
The discussions were held between GAFI CEO Dr. Mohamed Awad and Oracle Egypt General Manager Walid Ahmed, who also serves as Vice President of Mid-Market Applications for the Middle East and Africa, with the participation of Oracle's Head of Technology, Tamer Gamal. GAFI Deputy CEO Walid Anwar attended the meeting.
The talks are aligned with the directives of Investment and Foreign Trade Minister Mohamed Farid Saleh to promote digital transformation, encourage the localisation of advanced technologies and attract investment into Egypt's digital economy.
Facilitating Oracle's Expansion in Egypt
Awad said Oracle's plans are consistent with the government's investment priorities, particularly efforts to bring advanced technology capabilities into the local market.
He confirmed that GAFI is ready to coordinate with relevant government bodies, facilitate administrative procedures and support the process of obtaining the permits and licences needed to implement the company's plans.
The meeting also included a review of Oracle's latest cloud computing, AI and database solutions and its strategy for expanding their presence in Egypt.
Building Local Digital Capabilities
As part of the discussions, GAFI and Oracle agreed to make training opportunities available to Egyptian entrepreneurs and employees of the investment authority.
The training will cover modern cloud computing technologies and fall under Oracle Egypt's initiative to train 150,000 Egyptians.
The programme is intended to strengthen local expertise, help technology businesses grow and encourage Egyptian institutions to adopt digital solutions more widely.
Oracle Seeks Wider Adoption of Cloud and AI
Ahmed said Oracle is committed to accelerating the use of cloud computing and AI technologies across Egypt.
He highlighted the company's cooperation with public- and private-sector organisations to expand technology adoption, describing local talent development and digital skills training as essential elements in building a strong technology ecosystem.
Officials Participating in the Discussions
GAFI's representatives at the meeting included Mohamed Youssef, Advisor to the CEO for Promotion Affairs, and Heba El-Gamal, responsible for the Americas portfolio at the Promotion Sector.
The discussions reflect ongoing efforts to connect technology localisation with workforce development and wider digital adoption, supporting the development of Egypt's technology sector and digital economy.
