Finance Minister: Stimulating Investment and Partnering with the Private Sector is a Top Priority to Boost Growth
Ahmed Kouchouk, Minister of Finance, affirmed that stimulating investment across various sectors tops the ministry's priorities in the current phase. He emphasized that this is achieved through a genuine and ongoing partnership with the business community to enhance stability and competitiveness.
Strong Private Sector Responsiveness and Accelerated Growth
During his meeting with the Chairman and members of the Egyptian Private Equity Association (EPEA), the Minister explained that the private sector has demonstrated high capability and rapid responsiveness to recent economic and financial reforms, accounting for 65% of total investments. He reiterated the government's commitment to adopting promising initiatives that enhance national economic efficiency and drive growth.
Flexible Financial Policies and Discipline Supporting Social Spending
Kouchouk noted that the ministry follows balanced and flexible policies aimed at achieving financial discipline while offering encouraging incentives for economic activity. He added that maintaining primary surpluses ensures a downward path for debt and total deficit, giving the state greater capacity to expand social spending and support citizens.
Tax Facilitation Driven by the Tax Community and Service Modernization
Regarding the tax file, the Minister highlighted that recent tax facilities achieved tangible success because they originated from the demands of the tax community itself, affirming the continuation of simplification and support. He pointed out that tax revenues registered exceptional growth over the past two years by broadening the tax base without altering tax rates. He also revealed plans to streamline services through digital solutions, including launching a mobile app for real estate taxes.
Praise from the Investment Community and Call for Institutional Initiatives
For his part, Ayman Soliman, Chairman of the Egyptian Private Equity Association, expressed his appreciation for the Ministry of Finance's efforts in creating an attractive business environment that fosters trust and partnership. He called for forming joint working groups to establish practical and legislative solutions for investment challenges, emphasizing that incentivizing real estate investment funds (REITs) and financial packages serves as a key pillar for attracting international private equity, global pension funds, and stimulating the Egyptian Exchange (EGX).
