FinTra Holding”s UPN Launches Global ”UPN Consortium” at Money20/20 Middle East to Drive Payments Interoperability

The Universal Payment Network (UPN), a subsidiary of FinTra Holding, has announced the launch of the UPN Consortium. This open global community platform aims to build a collaborative framework for payment networks, banks, financial institutions, digital wallets, remittance companies, and open finance providers. The consortium allows members to share cross-market insights and directly shape the network’s strategic and commercial priorities.

Unveiled during the Money20/20 Middle East event in Riyadh, the UPN Consortium empowers global players in the payments and remittances ecosystem to help define the network's future direction. Participants will play a vital role in formulating its strategy, roadmap, pricing principles, and priorities for developing cross-border payment solutions.

UPN operates the platform and develops its underlying infrastructure and capabilities. It provides a structured framework for participating institutions to guide the network’s future while maintaining the clear operational and regulatory responsibilities essential for building a secure and scalable global network.

Bridging Fragmented Ecosystems:
Dr. Walid Sadek, Founder and CEO of FinTra Holding, stated that the UPN Consortium's launch coincides with rapid global growth across card networks, digital wallets, instant payment systems, and open finance. However, he noted that many of these ecosystems still operate within siloed technical, commercial, and settlement environments. This fragmentation increases integration complexity and prolongs the time required to enter new markets.

'UPN was designed to address this exact challenge by acting as a neutral interoperability layer,' Sadek explained. The network connects participating institutions through a unified global architecture, empowering each entity to retain its local identity, regulatory obligations, and customer relationships while simultaneously expanding its reach into new global ecosystems.

Sadek highlighted that the UPN network already spans more than 50 markets worldwide, encompassing over 500 million accounts. Furthermore, it provides access to over 100 Alternative Payment Methods (APMs), significantly reinforcing its capacity to build a seamlessly interconnected global ecosystem for payments and remittances.
