Egypt Launches First Locally Developed Industrial Robot
Egyptian Industry Minister Khaled Hashem witnessed the launch and handover of the country’s first industrial robot developed locally by Raed Bots, in cooperation with the Industrial Modernization Center, Mansoura University’s Faculty of Engineering and Qubi, as part of efforts to localize technology and deepen domestic manufacturing.
First Egyptian Industrial Robot Reaches 80% Local Content
The robot was developed through cooperation between the Industrial Modernization Center, Raed Bots and Qubi, and was designed to integrate into an actual industrial application within Qubi’s machinery.
Hashem said the launch marked an important step toward technology localization and deeper local manufacturing, stressing that technology and innovation are key drivers of industrial development and competitiveness.
The minister said the government’s objective goes beyond establishing production facilities to building a more efficient, flexible and competitive industrial sector that adopts advanced global technologies while developing local capabilities to design and manufacture part of those technologies.
He added that the project demonstrates the ability of Egyptian young people to innovate, develop technology and turn knowledge into a real industrial product. He said the concept of “Made in Egypt” is expanding to reflect local capabilities in manufacturing and innovation, while strengthening the use of technology in domestic industry and integration into global supply chains.
Expanding Local Manufacturing of Machinery and Robots
Hashem said the ministry is focusing on localizing the production of machinery and production lines as enabling industries within Egypt’s industrial strategy. He also stressed continued support for initiatives aimed at technology localization, deeper domestic manufacturing, stronger industrial competitiveness and creating new opportunities for young people.
He highlighted the importance of monitoring the robot’s performance in industrial operations to demonstrate its capabilities and build manufacturers’ confidence, supporting wider adoption of locally produced robots.
During the launch, the minister attended a demonstration of the robot and received an explanation of its operating mechanism, technical features and local-content ratio. The current local component stands at 80%, with a target of reaching 90% after the motor is manufactured locally.
Ayman El-Bayaa, Assistant Minister of Industry for Digital Transformation and Executive Director of the Industrial Modernization Center, said the center is working to connect innovation with practical industrial applications and enable the industrial sector to benefit from Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies.
Three Cooperation Agreements Signed
Three cooperation agreements were signed during the ceremony. The first, between the Industrial Modernization Center and Raed Bots, covers technical support services for industrial facilities. The second, between Raed Bots and Qubi, covers the supply of robots used in packaging machinery.
The third agreement, between Mansoura University’s Faculty of Engineering and Raed Bots, provides educational robots for students for research and training purposes.
Hashem said local robot manufacturing represents the beginning of a broader path toward developing Egyptian technological solutions, stressing the importance of partnerships among industry, universities and technology companies.
