US Dollar Holds Steady Below EGP 52 in Egypt Amid Surge in Expatriate Remittances
The US dollar held relatively steady below the 52-pound mark against the Egyptian pound in early Wednesday trading, September 23, according to the latest figures posted by public and private banks.
Egyptians closely monitor foreign exchange movements, as the dollar rate serves as a key driver of local consumer prices—particularly for imported commodities.
In a related development, remittances from Egyptians working abroad surged by 28.1% year-on-year during the first seven months of 2026 (January–July), reaching approximately $29.7 billion, up from $23.2 billion over the same period last year.
Remittance inflows maintained an upward trajectory in July 2026 alone, climbing 20.0% to nearly $4.5 billion compared to $3.8 billion in July 2025.
