Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly held a meeting to review the latest developments in several information and communications technology (ICT), telecommunications infrastructure, and digital transformation projects.

The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk, Minister of Communications and Information Technology Raafat Hendy, Prime Minister’s Assistant Hisham El-Sayed, Telecom Egypt Managing Director and CEO Tamer El Mahdy, Telecom Egypt Deputy CEO for Financial Affairs Wael Hanafy, and senior officials from the Ministry of Finance.

Madbouly highlighted the growing importance of Egypt’s ICT sector amid the rapid expansion of digital transformation and technological development. He noted that ICT has evolved into a productive service sector contributing to economic growth and sustainable development, while stressing the importance of continuing efforts to develop Egypt’s telecommunications market and expand digital transformation opportunities.

Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk said the ICT sector has significant potential for growth and expansion in international markets. He added that the government is adopting a new approach to resource management focused on improving spending efficiency and directing investment toward vital sectors, particularly ICT infrastructure, digital transformation applications, and artificial intelligence programs.

Raafat Hendy reviewed the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology’s efforts to accelerate Egypt’s digital transformation and build a competitive digital economy. These efforts include upgrading telecommunications infrastructure, expanding and improving digital government services, localizing technology, developing digital skills, supporting innovation and entrepreneurship, and empowering technology startups.

Hendy emphasized that modern telecommunications infrastructure is a key pillar of Egypt’s digital transformation. Current projects include Telecom Egypt’s expansion of fiber-optic networks to replace copper cables, as well as the deployment of fiber-optic infrastructure in villages covered by the presidential “Haya Karima” initiative to provide high-speed internet services.

The minister also highlighted efforts to strengthen Egypt’s international digital infrastructure by leveraging its strategic geographic location and international submarine cable networks. These efforts aim to reinforce Egypt’s position as a global data transit hub connecting East and West. The ministry is also preparing a comprehensive national strategy for data centers in cooperation with relevant government entities.

As part of its digital transformation efforts, the ministry is expanding access to government services through the Egypt Digital Platform. The platform currently provides more than 240 digital government services across 29 service packages, with a target of reaching 400 services by 2030.

The ministry is also working to increase the number of technology startups and support their expansion into regional and international markets. Through the Egypt Digital Innovation Hubs, known as “Creativa,” the ministry provides programs supporting innovative ideas, capacity building, startup incubation, and connections with investors.

Hendy further outlined Egypt’s efforts in artificial intelligence, focusing on using AI technologies to develop innovative solutions with developmental impact across various sectors, alongside expanding AI awareness and skills-development programs in cooperation with major global technology companies.
