Tesla Delays Highly Anticipated Roadster Unveiling to August Amid Ongoing SpaceX Tech Integration

Tesla has announced the postponement of the highly anticipated presentation of its electric sports car, the Roadster, to August or later. This move adds another chapter to a long series of delays that have plagued the project since it was first unveiled approximately nine years ago.

The vehicle was originally scheduled to be showcased at an event in Texas, but the date has been pushed back once again. Meanwhile, development continues on advanced technologies in collaboration with Elon Musk’s SpaceX. A key focus is a propulsion system relying on cold gas thrusters, which is expected to grant the car unprecedented acceleration and a limited ability to hover above the ground for short durations.

This latest delay follows a string of repetitive timeline changes. Several dates had previously been set throughout 2025 and 2026 before being sequentially pushed to the newly established target of at least August.

The Roadster stands as one of Tesla's most heavily delayed projects. The prototype was first revealed in 2017 with promises of entering production by 2020. However, manufacturing plans have been derailed multiple times, with current estimates suggesting actual production may not begin until 2027 or 2028.

According to industry reports, Tesla is heavily focused on an internal propulsion system known as the "A71" for the new version. Developed jointly with SpaceX, this system aims to significantly enhance performance metrics, including acceleration, stability, and braking. Estimates indicate that this special edition could feature up to 10 micro-thrusters to optimize performance, replacing the traditional rear-seat design.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has stated on multiple occasions that the car could achieve an acceleration of 0 to 60 mph in just 1.1 seconds. He has even hinted at the possibility of the car "flying" for brief moments—claims that continue to spark widespread debate regarding their practical feasibility in a production vehicle.

Despite the massive hype surrounding the project, thousands of customers who paid reservation deposits of up to $50,000 have been waiting years for delivery. As rival automakers continue to roll out high-performance electric vehicles to the market, the Roadster remains a deferred project, raising significant questions about when it will finally enter the actual production phase.
