 Banks operating in Egypt will be closed on Thursday, May 7, 2026, in observance of Labor Day, and will resume normal operations on Sunday, May 10, 2026.

The closure comes in implementation of the Cabinet’s decision to designate Thursday as an official paid holiday in lieu of Friday, May 1, as part of the government’s policy of shifting public holidays to create extended weekends for employees.

The decision applies to employees across the state’s administrative bodies, public authorities, local administration units, public sector companies, and public business sector entities. It also covers private sector employees subject to Egypt’s Labor Law.

Authorities noted that employers may require employees to work on the holiday when necessary, provided they receive either double pay or an alternative day off in accordance with labor regulations.

The temporary closure is expected to apply across the banking sector nationwide.
