Egypt’s Foreign Affairs and Communications Ministers Discuss Digital Transformation, Launch Bicentennial Commemorative Stamp
Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, received Minister of Communications and Information Technology Eng. Raafat Hindi on Tuesday, March 24, to discuss enhancing cooperation in digital transformation and the development of consular services.
The meeting focused on advancing joint efforts to streamline and digitize consular services, aiming to improve accessibility and efficiency for Egyptian citizens both at home and abroad. The discussion was attended by senior officials from both ministries, including Dalia El-Baz, Chairperson of Egypt Post; Mohamed Shamroukh, CEO of the National Telecom Regulatory Authority; and other key representatives.
At the outset, the Foreign Minister praised the ongoing collaboration, particularly in digitizing consular transactions through postal authentication services and the Digital Egypt platform. He emphasized the importance of expanding these services while ensuring their efficiency and sustainability, as well as raising awareness among Egyptians abroad about available digital solutions.
For his part, Eng. Raafat Hindi highlighted the strong partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in delivering citizen-centric digital services. He reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to accelerating digital transformation across government entities, enhancing service quality, and expanding the range of services available on the Digital Egypt platform.
Hindi noted that a pilot model has already been launched to provide services for Egyptians abroad via the platform, enabling the electronic issuance of four key certificates, with plans to expand to additional high-demand services.
The meeting also explored cooperation in information systems, digital infrastructure, and capacity building. Both sides stressed the importance of strengthening human capabilities in areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and data analytics, in line with Egypt’s national digital transformation strategy.
Additionally, the two ministers agreed to extend the exemption period for mobile phone usage for Egyptians residing abroad during visits to Egypt from 90 days to 120 days, effective April 1, to facilitate access to digital services.
Following the meeting, the ministers participated in launching a commemorative postage stamp marking the bicentennial of Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Issued in cooperation with Egypt Post, the stamp coincides with Diplomacy Day, celebrated annually on March 15, and reflects the long-standing legacy of Egyptian diplomacy and its role in advancing national interests regionally and internationally.
