Egypt Plans to Issue Three New Cement Licenses to Boost Production Capacity
Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, chaired the 37th meeting of the Ministerial Group for Industrial Development, during which the Ministry of Industry’s plan to issue three new licenses for establishing cement plants was reviewed.
Each license will cover one production line per factory, in addition to proposed expansion projects at several existing cement plants.
The projects received approval from both the Ministerial Group for Industrial Development and the Supreme Energy Council, as part of the state’s strategic direction to strengthen the production capacity of Egypt’s cement sector. The move aims to ensure adequate supply for the local market, maintain price stability, and support the sustainability of the construction and building sector.
El-Wazir emphasized that the new licenses are intended to proactively prepare for any potential surge in demand, particularly in light of expected reconstruction projects in the Gaza Strip.
He added that implementation of the projects is scheduled to be completed and full-scale production to begin within one year, reinforcing Egypt’s readiness to meet both domestic and regional construction needs.
