Xiaomi Bets on a 7,500mAh Battery as Redmi 17 Lands in Egypt From EGP 11,999
Xiaomi is expanding its smartphone lineup in Egypt with the launch of the Redmi 17, putting an unusually large 7,500mAh battery at the center of a device that also brings a 120Hz display, a 50-megapixel camera and up to 256GB of storage.
Starting at EGP 11,999, the new Redmi model targets users who prioritize battery endurance and a large screen without moving into higher-priced smartphone categories.
The Redmi 17 arrives in two configurations in Egypt: a 4GB RAM and 256GB storage version priced at EGP 11,999, and a 6GB RAM model with the same 256GB storage capacity at EGP 12,999.
A 7,500mAh battery takes center stage
Battery capacity is easily the most distinctive part of the Redmi 17 package.
Xiaomi has equipped the phone with a 7,500mAh battery, considerably larger than the capacities traditionally found in mainstream smartphones, while supporting 45W fast charging.
The phone can also work in the opposite direction. With up to 22.5W wired reverse charging, users can draw power from the Redmi 17 to recharge compatible devices, effectively giving the handset some of the functionality of a portable power bank.
According to Xiaomi’s laboratory testing, the battery can deliver up to 28 hours of video playback, 91 hours of music playback or 46 hours of calls. The company also claims up to 12 hours of continuous video recording, although actual endurance will vary depending on network conditions, settings and usage patterns.
Bigger battery comes with a bigger phone
That capacity comes with a physical trade-off.
The Redmi 17 weighs 232 grams and measures 8.8mm thick, putting it firmly on the larger side of the smartphone market.
Up front is a 6.9-inch display with a 1600 × 720 resolution and an adaptive refresh rate that can switch between 60Hz, 90Hz and 120Hz depending on the content being displayed.
Brightness reaches 675 nits under typical conditions and up to 825 nits in High Brightness Mode, while touch sampling can reach 240Hz.
Xiaomi has also added Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection and an IP64 rating against dust and water splashes. Wet Touch technology is designed to help maintain touchscreen responsiveness in certain damp conditions.
The display carries TÜV Rheinland certifications for Low Blue Light, Circadian Friendly and Flicker Free, alongside DC Dimming.
Helio G91-Ultra keeps the focus on everyday performance
Rather than chasing flagship-level processing power, Xiaomi has built the Redmi 17 around MediaTek’s Helio G91-Ultra, a 12nm octa-core chipset running at up to 2.0GHz and paired with Mali-G52 MC2 graphics.
The choice reinforces the phone’s positioning around everyday tasks, entertainment and battery endurance rather than high-end performance.
Xiaomi says memory can be expanded virtually to as much as 12GB through its Memory Extension feature, while a microSD card can add up to 2TB of additional storage.
The phone runs Xiaomi HyperOS 3, with the company promising improvements to responsiveness, animations and navigation between applications.
50MP camera and simultaneous front-and-rear recording
Photography is handled by a 50-megapixel main rear camera with an f/1.8 aperture and a secondary auxiliary camera.
An 8-megapixel camera sits on the front for selfies and video calls.
One of the more distinctive camera features is Dual-view, which allows the front and rear cameras to record simultaneously. The feature is aimed at users who want to capture both an event and their own reaction within the same recording session.
Stereo speakers — and the headphone jack survives
The Redmi 17 includes dual stereo speakers, with Xiaomi claiming the phone can boost volume by as much as 300%.
Unlike many newer smartphones, it also retains a 3.5mm headphone jack and supports FM radio when headphones are connected. AAC, SBC and LDAC audio technologies are supported.
Connectivity includes dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.4, while the hybrid SIM arrangement allows users to combine SIM and microSD configurations. NFC availability varies by market.
The phone comes in four finishes: Black, Dark Blue, Oak Green and Lotus Purple.
With the Redmi 17, Xiaomi is making a relatively clear trade-off at this end of its portfolio. The 720p-class display and 12nm processor keep the device away from premium territory, while the money is concentrated on features that are immediately tangible in daily use — particularly a huge battery, a large 120Hz screen, expandable storage and 45W charging.
At EGP 11,999, it is that 7,500mAh battery that Xiaomi will be counting on to make the Redmi 17 stand out in Egypt’s increasingly crowded smartphone market.
