Apple is reportedly working on a major refresh of its iPad family, with three new models expected to arrive in the first six months of 2027. The planned lineup is said to include updated versions of the iPad Air, iPad Pro and standard iPad.

The expected changes point to a wider upgrade strategy involving display technology, processing power, thermal management and wireless connectivity.

OLED Technology Could Reach the Next iPad Air

One of the most notable anticipated changes concerns the iPad Air, which may move from LCD to OLED technology.

OLED screens offer stronger contrast and more vivid colour reproduction than conventional LCD panels. The upcoming model is also expected to use Apple's M5 processor, potentially improving its ability to handle demanding applications, games and multiple tasks simultaneously.

M6 and Advanced Cooling Could Shape the Next iPad Pro

For the iPad Pro, Apple is expected to introduce the M6 chip, which could deliver additional processing capabilities for users working with professional software, video editing and design tools.

Another reported upgrade is a vapor chamber cooling system. By helping spread heat across a larger area and away from key components, the system could support more stable performance during extended, demanding workloads.

Such a development would be relevant as tablets continue to serve as tools for creative professionals and users running resource-intensive applications.

iPad 12 May Bring AI Features to a Wider Audience

Apple's next standard iPad, reportedly called the iPad 12, is expected to feature the A19 processor.

The chip could enable support for Apple Intelligence capabilities, potentially bringing Apple's AI features to a broader group of customers rather than limiting them to more expensive devices.

The expected specifications also include the N1 wireless chip with Wi-Fi 7 support. Cellular versions may use Apple's C1X modem, which is designed to improve power efficiency.

Potential Price Increases Remain a Concern

The anticipated product updates come as Apple continues to expand OLED technology across its tablet portfolio. The company has already introduced a new iPad mini equipped with an OLED display.

That model's pricing has raised questions about the cost of future upgrades. It launched with a starting price of $699, which is $200 higher than the previous generation's original launch price in 2024. The previous model's price had risen to $599 in June 2026, ahead of the new announcement.

For now, Apple has not disclosed the final specifications, pricing or launch schedules for the next iPad Air, iPad Pro and iPad 12. The reported details remain unconfirmed pending the company's official announcements.
