The National Bank of Egypt (NBE) continues to strengthen its position in digital transformation and financial technology by developing electronic banking services and expanding digital solutions that enhance customer experience and support financial inclusion.

During the 29th edition of Cairo ICT 2025, NBE participated in the exhibition, presenting its banking services and digital solutions. Abir Khadr, Head of the Cybersecurity Group at the bank, also participated in discussions addressing cybersecurity and digital resilience.

The bank’s presence reflects its ongoing efforts to modernize banking services through technology, strengthen the security of digital transactions, and provide customers with more accessible and flexible banking channels.

Digital Banking and Customer Experience

Digital banking is a key pillar of NBE’s strategy, with the bank offering electronic services that enable customers to conduct various transactions without visiting branches.

These services include the Al Ahly Net and Al Ahly Mobile platforms, which provide access to a range of banking services, including account inquiries, transfers, and electronic transaction management.

NBE also provides digital services for businesses through platforms such as Al Ahly Net for Corporate Banking, alongside electronic payment solutions, e-commerce services, and merchant services.

The bank continues to develop its digital self-service channels, allowing customers to complete selected banking procedures online, including subscribing to electronic account statements and obtaining their International Bank Account Number (IBAN).

Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics in Banking

NBE is exploring the opportunities offered by emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, data analytics, and process automation, to improve banking services and operational efficiency.

These technologies can support more efficient operations and service development while helping financial institutions manage technology-related risks and protect customer data and banking transactions.

At Cairo ICT 2026, the practical applications of artificial intelligence in financial services, data analytics, and operational efficiency are expected to attract attention, in line with the exhibition’s theme, “AI in Action – Turning Intelligence into Impact.”

Cybersecurity and Banking Transaction Protection

Cybersecurity remains a key component of NBE’s digital transformation strategy as customers increasingly rely on online banking and mobile applications.

The bank continues to strengthen the security of its digital channels through technological and procedural safeguards designed to protect customer information and maintain the integrity of electronic transactions.

These efforts include strengthening identity verification and access controls to help reduce unauthorized account access and build customer confidence in digital banking services.

The importance of these measures continues to grow alongside the expansion of digital payments and remote banking.

Financial Inclusion and Wider Access to Banking Services

NBE continues to support financial inclusion by expanding access to digital banking services for different segments of society, including young people, women, and owners of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises.

Its financial inclusion efforts involve developing banking products, expanding digital access channels, promoting financial literacy, and improving service accessibility for older adults and people with disabilities.

Electronic banking, mobile applications, digital wallets, and bank cards provide customers with multiple options for managing their financial transactions.

Supporting Startups and Technological Innovation

NBE’s role in innovation also extends to supporting entrepreneurship and the startup ecosystem through cooperation with organizations involved in technology development.

In September 2026, the bank collaborated with the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) and Plug and Play to host the graduation event for the seventh cohort of the Cairo Program. The event featured projects developed by 26 startups following a 12-week incubation and acceleration program.

The participating companies operated across several fields, including enterprise AI, cybersecurity, fintech, health technology, and the Internet of Things.

This collaboration highlights the bank’s involvement in initiatives connecting technological innovation with market needs and creating opportunities for startups to engage with investors and financial institutions.

Banking Innovation and Digital Services Development

The National Bank of Egypt received the Best Retail Banking Innovation in Egypt 2025 award from International Banker, recognizing its efforts to develop digital banking solutions and expand services delivered through electronic channels.

The recognition highlighted initiatives involving mobile banking applications, self-service solutions, improved access to banking services, and financial inclusion.

These developments reflect the bank’s focus on delivering a more flexible banking experience while continuing to enhance its digital channels in response to changing customer needs and developments in financial technology.

NBE at Cairo ICT 2026

The 30th edition of Cairo ICT, scheduled for November 7–10, 2026, will take place under the theme “AI in Action – Turning Intelligence into Impact.” Digital banking, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and financial inclusion are among the key areas shaping the banking sector’s development.

NBE is expected to highlight developments in its digital banking services, electronic payment solutions, and technology applications designed to improve customer experience, protect transactions, and expand access to financial services.

Artificial intelligence, data analytics, and process automation are also expected to feature prominently in discussions about the future of banking, reflecting the exhibition’s focus on moving beyond AI capabilities toward practical applications.

These areas align with the broader digital transformation of Egypt’s banking sector and NBE’s efforts to expand electronic banking, support innovation, and promote financial inclusion.
