Ultrahuman is expanding the health features of its smart rings with Heart Scan, a new on-demand tool that allows eligible users to check their heart rhythm in around one minute.

The feature is powered by technology from FibriCheck and is available to users of the Ultrahuman Ring Air and Ultrahuman Ring Pro. Eligible customers in the UK, Europe, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific can access the feature at no additional cost.

Heart Scan is intended for moments when users notice that their heartbeat feels unusual, giving them the option to capture data at the time the sensation occurs.

Heart Monitoring Moves Beyond Overnight Tracking

Ultrahuman has already offered heart rhythm monitoring through its AFib Detection PowerPlug, launched in 2024 and described by the company as the first atrial fibrillation screening tool built for a smart ring.

The company says the tool has analyzed millions of nights of user data since its launch.

However, overnight monitoring may not capture every episode of atrial fibrillation. The condition can occur without noticeable symptoms, while some episodes may be brief and disappear before they can be detected.

An estimated 52.6 million people worldwide have atrial fibrillation, with many unaware that they have it.

Heart Scan gives users another option by allowing them to initiate a check during the day when they notice an irregular or unusual heartbeat.

FibriCheck Analyzes the Recorded Heart Data

The scan starts through the Ultrahuman app, after which users need to remain still for approximately one minute while the ring records their heartbeat.

The recorded information is processed using FibriCheck technology, which can return five possible outcomes:

  • Regular
  • Possibly irregular
  • Possible atrial fibrillation
  • Signal quality too low
  • Inconclusive

The system also allows users to generate a PDF report containing their heart rhythm recording and graphs illustrating the intervals between heartbeats.

The report can then be shared with a doctor, providing documented data that may help explain an unusual heart sensation that occurred previously.

Latest App Versions Required

Access to Heart Scan requires Ultrahuman app version 4.3.0 or newer on iPhone, while Android users need version 3.2.0.0 or later.

Ultrahuman continues to offer its AFib PowerPlug for overnight monitoring as a paid add-on.

The service costs £4.90 per month or £49 annually in the UK, while users in the eurozone pay €5.90 per month or €49 per year.

Ultrahuman Warns Against Using the Feature for Diagnosis

Ultrahuman emphasizes that Heart Scan is designed for heart rhythm monitoring and should not be considered a complete medical diagnostic system.

The feature cannot identify heart attacks, and receiving a “Regular” reading does not guarantee that the heart is completely healthy or rule out an underlying medical condition.

Users experiencing sudden or severe symptoms should not wait for a Heart Scan result or depend on the smart ring. Instead, they should seek urgent medical attention.
