Strategic Partnership: Egypt and OECD Enhance Cooperation to Launch Phase Two of Country Programme

On the sidelines of his participation in the El Alamein-Africa Forum 2026, Dr. Ahmed Rostom, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, met with Karim Dahou, Deputy Director of Global Relations and Cooperation at the OECD, to discuss partnership prospects and arrangements for the upcoming phase.

Administrative Capital to Host the Ministerial Conference

The meeting addressed preparation arrangements for Egypt to host the OECD Ministerial Conference for the Middle East and North Africa region in the New Administrative Capital. Featuring the participation of the OECD Secretary-General and member state delegations, the hosting reflects the depth of bilateral relations and supports regional stability and economic growth.

Priorities for Phase Two of the Country Programme

The Minister announced Egypt's desire to initiate technical team meetings to define the pillars of the second phase, which will focus on:

Enhancing institutional efficiency and improving business environment competitiveness.

Transferring international expertise in financial resource mobilization.

Developing the national accounting system in line with modern standards.

Empowering Startups and Regional Integration

Rostom emphasized the necessity of strengthening the regional dimension of entrepreneurship to facilitate access to markets, capital, talent, and technology for Egyptian and African startups, calling on the OECD to adapt its policies to fit the unique nature of African economies.

International Praise for Economic Reforms

For his part, Karim Dahou commended the economic reform trajectory implemented by the Egyptian government, reaffirming the OECD's commitment to providing technical and institutional support to advance sustainable development priorities in Egypt and across the continent.
