Toyota Tops the List of Best Value-Retaining Cars in the UAE
Study Reveals the Best Cars for Retaining Value Upon Resale in the UAE
The cost of owning a vehicle is not limited to the initial purchase price or features; resale value is a crucial consideration for those planning to sell or upgrade in the future. In this context, a recent analysis by Dubizzle Cars on the UAE used-car market shows a clear dominance of Japanese brands in preserving their financial value over time.
Toyota Leads the Pack by a Noticeable Margin
Toyota topped the list of brands with the best value retention, averaging 65% of its original price after three years of use. The analysis revealed a gradual depreciation rate, with Toyota vehicles retaining 87% of their value after the first year, 75% after the second year, and settling at 65% by the end of the third year.
Rankings of the Top Brands in the Market
The remaining spots were distributed among Japanese, American, and South Korean brands as follows:
Lexus and Ram: Second place at 61%.
Nissan and Honda: Third place at 60%.
Mazda, GMC, Jeep, and Hyundai: Fourth place at 59%.
Methodology and Classification
The study evaluated model years from 2021 to 2023 by comparing similar models, trims, and manufacturing years, taking into account regional specification differences (GCC specs vs. non-GCC). Final results were derived using average and median prices weighted by listing volume.
What Does Residual Value Mean for the Consumer?
Understanding a car's residual value helps buyers estimate the total cost of ownership more accurately. It provides greater financial flexibility when upgrading or replacing a vehicle compared to models that depreciate rapidly, making this percentage a key indicator alongside fuel, insurance, and maintenance expenses.
