 Egypt’s Mansour Group and China’s Tianneng Battery Group Co., Ltd. have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore the localized manufacturing of advanced energy storage solutions, including lead-acid automotive batteries and lithium batteries tailored for new energy vehicles (NEVs).

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Dr. Mohamed Farid Saleh, alongside leadership from the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone), the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), and the Egyptian Commercial Service.

Project Scope and Strategic Objectives

The proposed joint venture targets the localization of advanced battery manufacturing to serve domestic automotive needs and establish an export hub. The project is currently in the feasibility and site-selection phase, focusing on:

Lead-Acid Batteries: Scaling production for traditional automotive and industrial applications.

Lithium-Ion Technologies: Manufacturing essential power components for the rapidly expanding NEV market.

Advanced Energy Storage: Leveraging Tianneng’s 40 years of R&D, which spans sodium-ion and solid-state battery technologies, as well as battery recycling.

Government Backing and Infrastructure Integration

Minister Saleh emphasized that localizing NEV components is a core pillar of Egypt's industrial strategy to increase value-added manufacturing. The government has pledged comprehensive support during the project's study phase, including expediting land allocation procedures and evaluating prime industrial real estate, particularly within the SCZone's logistics network.
