Egypt Unveils Tailored Follow-Up Program to Accelerate Indian Investments Following BRICS Meetings
Egyptian Minister of Industry, Eng. Khaled Hashem, affirmed that the Ministry will address the proposals presented by Indian companies during his meeting with the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) through a customized, project-by-project follow-up program. The initiative aims to accelerate investment decisions and translate initial interest into tangible operations.
Speaking at the conclusion of his participation in the BRICS Industry Ministers Meeting in Jaipur, India, Hashem explained that the follow-up program will systematically identify the specific challenges or requirements of each project, designate the responsible Egyptian entity, outline the necessary actions, and set a target timeline for execution.
High-Level Engagement with Indian Conglomerates
The meeting witnessed the participation of prominent Indian companies and major corporate groups either already operating in or exploring the Egyptian market. It was attended by Dr. Mohamed Farid, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade; Ambassador Kamel Galal, Egypt’s Ambassador to India; and Dr. Ahmed Maghawry, Assistant Minister of Industry for International Cooperation.
The Minister of Industry noted that for Indian companies already established in Egypt, the Ministry will closely monitor their expansion opportunities and efforts to maximize local value-add. Meanwhile, companies currently evaluating market entry will receive tailored support in defining their projects, selecting optimal locations, finding the right local partners, and determining the most suitable investment model.
Addressing Operational Challenges
During the discussions, Indian executives raised various inquiries and highlighted operational challenges facing certain projects. Key topics included navigating approvals and licensing, identifying reliable local partners, accessing accurate market data, securing industrial land and energy resources, and streamlining expansion procedures.
Hashem underscored the government's commitment to ongoing coordination with FICCI and the Egypt-India Business Council. This collaboration will focus on attracting new Indian enterprises, organizing sector-specific matchmaking events, and bridging Indian firms with Egyptian manufacturers, suppliers, and investment opportunities.
Metrics for Success and Private Sector Leadership
The Minister highlighted that the ultimate success of this initiative will be measured by concrete metrics: the volume of investments advancing to the implementation phase, the actual launch of facility expansions, the extent of technology localization, the percentage of local component integration, and the export capacity of the newly established projects.
Concluding his remarks, Hashem stressed that the private sector must spearhead the transformation of economic and industrial relations between Egypt and India. Concurrently, the Egyptian government will remain dedicated to cultivating a highly conducive investment climate, resolving operational bottlenecks, and connecting foreign investors with local partners to build resilient, joint production and supply chains between the two nations.
