Egypt Exports 160,000 Tons of Food Products to 184 Countries in a Single Week
Egypt exported approximately 160,000 tons of food products through 3,900 shipments over the past week, according to the latest report issued by the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA).
These shipments, processed by 1,333 exporting companies, encompassed 683 diverse food items—ranging from fresh vegetables and fruits to preserved preparations, flour, and grain products—reaching a total of 184 countries worldwide.
Top Export Commodities and Destinations
Fresh produce dominated the export scene. Vegetable exports comprised 44 items totaling 46,000 tons, while fruit exports included 33 items amounting to 31,000 tons.

Sudan topped the list of importing nations for Egyptian food products last week, followed closely by the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, the United States, and Jordan.
To further facilitate and support agricultural exports, the NFSA issued 1,110 health certificates, ensuring all outbound products met rigorous international safety standards and bolstering global market confidence in Egyptian goods.
Imports: Grains and Oils Take the Lead
On the import side, Egypt received 1,695 food shipments totaling 204,000 tons, imported by 880 companies from 87 countries. The primary imported commodities were soybeans, wheat, and various edible oils.
The United States ranked first among exporting countries to the Egyptian market, followed by Indonesia, Russia, Brazil, and China.
Port Activities and Customs Clearance
The Port of Alexandria emerged as the busiest hub for both incoming and outgoing food shipments.

Regarding customs clearance, 1,172 food shipments were temporarily released under retention, while 520 shipments were cleared through the fast-track release system. Additionally, the Grievance Committee documented cases for 106 shipments, and 52 new import licenses were issued during the same period.
Stringent Food Safety and Inspection Measures
As part of its mandate to ensure the safety of strategic goods, the NFSA's General Administration for the Control of Storage Facilities conducted 74 retention missions, inspecting 91 food facilities to verify compliance with international standards.
To protect consumer health, authorities retained 221 incoming food shipments and maintained the retention of 21 laboratory-rejected shipments. Furthermore, to prevent port congestion, the NFSA re-exported 7 rejected shipments, ensuring the smooth flow of trade.
In the domestic market, the NFSA carried out targeted inspections on bakeries—including 4 subsidized (Balady) bakeries and 6 commercial (tourist) bakeries—to guarantee adherence to technical specifications and ensure the safe production of human-consumable goods.
