SpaceX”s First Post-IPO Earnings Call: Retail Investors Shift Focus to Starship, Mascots, and Pink Rockets
SpaceX’s first earnings call following its initial public offering (IPO) is expected to focus heavily on artificial intelligence spending and projected profits from its Starlink satellite communications network. However, many retail investors seem to have entirely different priorities.
Following in the footsteps of Tesla, SpaceX has provided investors with an online platform to submit questions ahead of the earnings call, which is expected to feature CEO Elon Musk. The platform allows users to submit and upvote their preferred questions.
Among the most highly voted questions ahead of the call, investors requested to see more footage of the "Starship" lunar lander, which NASA will use in its Artemis program to return astronauts to the Moon next year.
Investors also inquired whether "Asteroid"—a Shiba Inu character recently unveiled by SpaceX as its official mascot and available for purchase as a $35 plush toy—would play a larger role in education, children's charities, and public outreach.
Other shareholders asked for a timeline on when the new Starship will begin in-orbit refueling and when it will be capable of catching both the booster and the upper stage post-launch. Some even asked about improving the rocket's aesthetics.
One user simply asked: "Can we paint the rocket pink?"
Additionally, an investor suggested offering the rocket's heat shield tiles for sponsorship, allowing fans to have their names printed on them as they travel into space.
