eNovate to Launch Trial Phase of ‘Smart Sharm El-Sheikh Taxi’ System in Mid-August

eNovate, a subsidiary of the state-led digital and financial investments group eFinance, is gearing up to launch the trial operational phase of the "Smart Sharm El-Sheikh Taxi" system starting August 15, 2026. This initiative is a major step toward digitizing taxi services and enhancing the mobility experience for both citizens and tourists, aligning seamlessly with the state’s broader efforts to develop smart transportation networks.

The announcement was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Major General Dr. Ismail Kamal, Governor of South Sinai, and attended by Brigadier General Ahmed Salah, Director of the South Sinai Traffic Department. The meeting focused on reviewing the executive status of the new digital system, which relies on a dedicated mobile application to regulate taxi operations, elevate service efficiency, and ensure traffic discipline.

Trial Phase and Evaluation Timeline

Governor Kamal confirmed that the trial period will run from mid-August until September 1, 2026. Following this phase, a comprehensive evaluation of the operational results will be conducted to pave the way for the system's official, full-scale launch.

Driver Engagement and Fair Pricing

To ensure a smooth transition, the Governor issued several key directives aimed at integrating local drivers into the new digital ecosystem:

Pricing Coordination: Ongoing coordination between the Traffic Department, the Transit Authority, and taxi driver representatives to establish a fair and transparent pricing structure.

Workshops and Conferences: Organizing an expanded conference and practical workshops for taxi owners and drivers to explain the operational mechanics of the electronic application.

Operational Standards: Emphasizing strict adherence to the application's use, standardized driver uniforms, and regulatory instructions to match Sharm El-Sheikh's prestigious status as a premier global tourist destination.

Strict Field Monitoring and Enforcement

The Governor firmly stressed the necessity of intensifying field monitoring campaigns. These inspections will guarantee that all drivers are actively using the electronic application, abiding by the approved tariffs, and complying with all regulatory requirements. Immediate legal action will be taken against any violations to ensure the system’s success and maintain the highest levels of service quality for passengers.
