Central Bank of Egypt Launches “Be Smarter than the Scammer” Campaign to Combat Financial Fraud

In its ongoing efforts to enhance financial and banking awareness, the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) has launched a new educational video titled "Be Smarter than the Scammer." The initiative aims to educate bank customers about the most common fraudulent methods while providing essential guidelines to help protect their personal and financial data.

The video explicitly warns against sharing personal or banking information with anyone or through untrusted links and applications, emphasizing that scammers employ a wide array of tactics to deceive customers and compromise their bank details.

Furthermore, the CBE clarifies that banks do not use personal phone numbers to contact customers. Bank representatives will never ask customers to disclose their bank card numbers, PIN codes, or One-Time Passwords (OTPs), even under the pretext of updating account information or preventing an account suspension.

The campaign also highlights one of the most prevalent scams, wherein fraudsters trick customers into believing they have won large cash prizes. The victims are then urged to click on anonymous links or enter their banking details to claim the reward—deceptive practices designed solely to steal data and funds.

The Central Bank of Egypt urged all customers to exercise extreme caution and refrain from sharing any banking or personal information with untrusted parties. The CBE stressed the importance of dealing exclusively through official banking channels and immediately reporting any fraudulent attempts or suspicious communications targeting their accounts or financial data.
