Meta’s Threads Crosses 500 Million Monthly Active Users; Rolls Out ”Your Algo” Feed Controls and Communities Hub

 Meta Platforms announced that its text-based social network, Threads, has amassed more than 500 million monthly active users (MAUs). The milestone comes nearly three years after the platform's initial launch as a direct corporate challenger to Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter).

In tandem with the user milestone, Meta unveiled a suite of new features engineered to elevate feed customization and platform engagement, spearheaded by a content-control architecture called "Your Algo." According to a Reuters report, the feature grants users private, granular control over the content displayed on their primary feeds based on immediate personal preferences.

The "Your Algo" capability allows individuals to explicitly prompt the system to show more or less content related to specific topics for customized durations ranging from one to seven days. This private management hub refines the platform's previous "Dear Algo" public posting feedback loop introduced earlier this year. The feature is currently live for Threads users in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand, with a phased global rollout expected shortly.

Concurrently, Meta is graduating its "Communities" feature out of beta testing to streamline how users discover and participate in niche, topic-focused groups. The company highlighted that community structures have evolved into a primary engine of engagement on the platform. To support this organic growth, Meta is deploying a dedicated Communities Hub within the sidebar, alongside enhanced search tools, custom icons, and localized native-language tags for international markets.

The strategic expansion coincides with Meta’s aggressive scaling of its digital advertising footprint on Threads, positioning the application as a formidable corporate alternative to X within the global social media advertising market since its inception in July 2023.
