OpenAI Awards $10,000 Grants to 26 Young Visionaries Redefining AI for Social Good

OpenAI has unveiled the winners of its inaugural "ChatGPT Futures" program, awarding $10,000 grants to 26 university students and young entrepreneurs. The initiative highlights how the "Class of 2026"—the first generation to have AI tools available throughout their entire college journey—is leveraging ChatGPT to build practical solutions for healthcare, accessibility, and disaster relief.

Among the standout projects is a non-profit founded by student Crystal Yang, which developed over 50 voice-activated games for the blind and visually impaired. Other winning innovations include Wi-Fi-based AI tools for locating disaster survivors under rubble and space robotics designed to automate routine tasks for astronauts. OpenAI’s program emphasizes that AI is no longer just a research tool but a foundational platform for a new wave of startups dedicated to solving real-world challenges.
