Restaurants and Government Services Lead Bahrain’s E-Payment Boom; Digital Transfers Cross BHD 3.4 Billion Mark
Bahrain’s digital financial landscape witnessed a dynamic April 2026, with sectoral spending patterns highlighting the deep integration of e-payments in daily life. Restaurants led the POS activity with 7 million transactions, while Government Services claimed the highest transaction value at BHD 81 million (~$30.45 million). This surge in digital engagement is further evidenced by the Fawri+ system, which processed 41.7 million rapid transfers totaling BHD 865.4 million during the month.

Telecommunications and Supermarkets also emerged as key drivers of digital value, contributing BHD 43.7 million and BHD 46.2 million, respectively. As online payment gateways recorded 2.1 million operations—valued at BHD 81.1 million—it is clear that digital commerce is becoming the primary engine of Bahrain’s retail sector. The Central Bank of Bahrain’s data confirms that as residents move away from physical currency, the demand for secure, real-time financial services like Fawateer and Fawri is shaping the future of the Kingdom’s economic landscape.
