National Bank of Egypt Earns ISO Certification for Legal Group, Wins Prestigious Middle East Legal Awards

The National Bank of Egypt (NBE) has once again reaffirmed its leadership in legal excellence and institutional governance, with its Legal Group earning the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Certification from the British Standards Institution (BSI) for the fourth consecutive year. NBE remains the first and only bank in Egypt, the Middle East, and Africa to receive this certification in legal quality management, a distinction it has held since 2022.
The certification, accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS), was awarded following a rigorous audit conducted by BSI, assessing the compliance of the Legal Group’s litigation and legal support divisions with international quality standards.
According to a statement issued by the bank, the Legal Group's achievement reflects its continued commitment to legal excellence and operational efficiency in alignment with global best practices.
Double Win at the Middle East Legal Awards 2025
In addition to the ISO certification, the NBE Legal Group was also honored with two prestigious awards at the Middle East Legal Awards 2025, held in the UAE last April. The group secured:
Legal Team of the Year (Large Teams Category)
Best Legal Team in CSR and ESG Initiatives
These accolades recognize the Group’s outstanding performance and strategic role in aligning legal operations with corporate responsibility and sustainability goals.
Notably, NBE was the only Egyptian banking institution competing against major international banks and organizations with a strong presence in the Middle East.
Executive Praise for a Culture of Excellence
Commenting on the achievement, Mohamed El-Etreby, CEO of the National Bank of Egypt, expressed pride in the Legal Group’s accomplishments:
“Securing the ISO 9001:2015 certification for the fourth consecutive year, alongside two major regional awards, reflects the high level of trust international institutions place in NBE’s governance and legal systems. It affirms the professionalism and capability of our legal team, and supports the bank’s commitment to aligning with international standards in legal operations.”
El-Etreby emphasized that these milestones are part of the bank’s broader strategy to deliver top-tier banking services and enhance institutional performance through legal excellence and interdepartmental collaboration.
A Team-Driven Path to Global Standards
Ashraf Shaaban, NBE’s Chief Legal Officer, highlighted that the Legal Group’s recognition is a direct result of its strategic vision, innovation, teamwork, and commitment to human capital development:
“Our success is built on a framework that prioritizes legal expertise, operational innovation, and a collaborative approach to supporting business units across the bank. These awards and certifications reflect the dedication of our highly trained legal professionals to advancing the bank’s mission through global legal standards.”
Shaaban noted that the Legal Group’s dual focus on litigation and legal support services has strengthened the bank’s capacity to adapt to evolving regulatory and legal environments, while setting benchmarks for the region.
Driving Legal Excellence in Banking
The recognition of the NBE Legal Group not only cements its pioneering status within the banking sector but also demonstrates the bank’s broader commitment to quality, governance, and sustainable legal practices. As legal functions become increasingly central to organizational success, NBE continues to lead the way in adopting innovative legal strategies and frameworks that ensure resilience, compliance, and long-term value creation.
