Sumsub and Jelou AI Bring Identity Checks into WhatsApp-Based Financial Onboarding

Identity verification provider Sumsub has joined forces with AI infrastructure company Jelou AI to integrate identity checks into financial service onboarding processes conducted through WhatsApp. The partnership was announced alongside Mexico Tech Week 2026.

The initiative brings together Sumsub's identity verification and compliance technology with Jelou's infrastructure for developing AI agents that connect to business systems, databases and operational rules. Through this integration, conversations on WhatsApp can serve as the starting point for financial service applications, with AI agents guiding users through requests and initiating identity checks.

The results can then be used to determine the appropriate next steps based on the requirements of each financial institution.

A Unified Customer Onboarding Journey

The companies aim to combine conversational engagement and identity verification within a single workflow. This would allow financial institutions to process customer requests more efficiently, using verification outcomes to move applications forward or refer them for further review.

Miguel González, Sumsub's Regional Director in Mexico, explained that the growing use of digital conversations to initiate financial service applications makes it important to incorporate identity checks directly into the process.

He said the collaboration connects verification procedures with workflows managed by AI agents, while preserving the compliance requirements and internal controls defined by each financial institution.

Supporting Digital Payments and Money Transfers

The partnership will explore use cases involving customer onboarding for money transfers, remittance services and online payments. Its objective is to link the initial request submitted through a digital conversation with the identity checks needed before customers can proceed.

Jelou supplies the technology infrastructure that allows AI agents to connect with enterprise systems, data and operational tools. Sumsub provides identity verification solutions through a platform covering individual and business verification, fraud prevention, continuous monitoring and risk management.

Luis Loaiza, CEO and Co-Founder of Jelou AI, described AI agents as an emerging access channel for financial services, supported by infrastructure that connects them to enterprise systems and operational requirements. He added that identity verification is a core part of this infrastructure.

According to Loaiza, the partnership gives businesses additional options for incorporating identity checks into a unified onboarding process, while seeking to improve costs and returns from investments in AI technology.

The collaboration is designed to address the need to balance a convenient digital customer experience with the identity verification and compliance measures required to establish financial relationships.
