Tesla Secures $30 Billion in Credit Lines to Fund Cybercab, Optimus, and Semi Production

Tesla has secured new credit lines totaling up to $30 billion, a strategic move aimed at supporting its ambitious expansion plans to manufacture upcoming products, most notably the Cybercab autonomous taxi, the Optimus humanoid robot, and the Tesla Semi truck.

The new financing arrangements include a $20 billion, three-year term loan from Citibank, alongside an $8 billion, five-year revolving credit facility from Wells Fargo. Additionally, the automaker secured a separate $2 billion, 364-day revolving credit facility.

In a recent regulatory filing, Tesla clarified that it does not currently plan to draw on these credit facilities during 2026, despite ramping up its readiness to fund industrial expansions and increase capital allocation for new advanced projects.

Capital Expenditures in 2026

The company projects its capital expenditures will reach at least $25 billion in 2026. Tesla exited the second quarter of the year with approximately $9 billion in debt, while its liquidity—comprising cash and short-term investments—exceeded a robust $40 billion.

The next-generation products under development at Tesla require highly specialized production lines and dedicated manufacturing infrastructure. The company is actively moving toward constructing separate, standalone facilities to produce the Tesla Semi and the Optimus robot, while simultaneously scaling up its operational capabilities for the Cybercab project.

This strategic financial maneuvering comes as Tesla heavily accelerates its investments in autonomous driving and advanced robotics, striving to transition these innovative concepts from the research and development phase into large-scale commercial production.
