Bank AlJazira Partners with Thunes to Enable Instant Global Remittances to Billions of Accounts and Wallets

Saudi Arabia’s Bank AlJazira has partnered with Thunes to provide its retail banking customers with instant access to billions of bank accounts and digital wallets worldwide. The strategic agreement aims to advance international remittance services and expand the reach of cross-border payments.

Under the agreement, Bank AlJazira will tap into Thunes' direct global network, bolstering the speed and reliability of cross-border transfers. It also broadens payment options by introducing new corridors and international destinations, with an emphasis on high-volume routes across the Asia-Pacific region, Europe, and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

Fahad Al-Mutairi, Head of Digital Retail Banking and Payments at Bank AlJazira, stated that the bank focuses on delivering fast, secure, and user-friendly banking services. He noted that Thunes’ global network will significantly enhance the bank’s cross-border capabilities.

Al-Mutairi added that the partnership aligns with the bank's strategy to expand global reach and accelerate payouts directly to bank accounts—particularly across key corridors—amid the rapid evolution of the payments landscape and the widespread adoption of digital wallets.

Transforming the Cross-Border Remittance Experience

Ahmad Yaghoob, Vice President for MENA and Head of Saudi Arabia at Thunes, remarked that Bank AlJazira's selection of Thunes reflects the trust established financial institutions place in the company’s digital strategy and global network.

He explained that Thunes is actively working to strengthen connectivity between Saudi Arabia and global markets, helping elevate the international remittance experience, particularly for the Kingdom’s substantial expatriate workforce sending money home.

Thunes continues to scale its partnerships with financial institutions across the Saudi market, driven by the increasing reliance on digital payment infrastructure and in support of Saudi Vision 2030 goals to develop the financial sector and drive financial innovation.

Data from Thunes in collaboration with Juniper Research indicates that 56% of Saudi Arabia’s population sent money abroad in the past year, positioning the Kingdom among the world's most active and dynamic markets for cross-border remittances.
